How Do You Know When You’ve Met The “One”?

Posted in Patiently Waiting...Sort of with tags , , , , , , , on October 30, 2011 by holychick

As a single Christian young woman, often times thoughts of the “One” crosses my mind. I wonder what he’ll look like, what his personality will be like, how will we meet etc. The only thing I know for sure is that my “One” must be unequivocally sold out for God! No exceptions, no substitutions, no half stepping and no fronting about it!

As my early 20’s are becoming a distant memory (we had some great times!), and my “One” has yet to make his appearance, I’m beginning to get the side eye from everybody! Don’t you just love the why are you still single question?

Side note: A friend of mine said that every time he goes to a wedding people ask him so when is it going to be your turn or they say you’re next! So he said the next time he goes to a funeral he’s going to go around and ask people so when is it going to be your turn or point to someone and say you’re next! LOL, he’s a hot mess.

Either way I don’t have an answer to the why I’m still single question and even if I did I still have to wait on God’s time. People don’t seem to get that and try to match me with anybody just as long as the person is single. A friend of mine even told me straight out I know you’re not going to like him, but he’s single. WHAT!!! ! Not wanting to be closed minded I ask is he a Christian? She says I don’t know, but he’s funny. Lol, thanks, but I’ll pass! I am no where near desperate so why is everyone else desperate to hook me up. Relax everybody!

This is not only my reality, but it is true for so many of my single friends, both male and female. The worse part is that when one person from the group gets blessed to change their facebook status from single to married, they act like they are now a part of an elusive secret society that only those lucky enough to have met the “One” are allowed membership. There becomes an unspoken divide between the have and the have not.

While some people become stuck on stupid once they get married, there are plenty more couples who we singles can gain wisdom from. I enjoy listening to these couples rehash how they met and talk about how they knew their spouse was the “One”. Though all the stories differ there is always one commonality, PRAYER! Marriage is life changing and too important not to include prayer. Seeking God’s guidance can make the difference between truly meeting the “One” and making “One” of the biggest mistakes of your life!

Recently I came across and article on Single Black Male discussing this very topic. It was very interesting and worth checking out so click the link and take a look at the male’s perspective on the “One”.

For all my married folks out there I would love to hear about how you knew you met the one, so feel free to leave a comment sharing your experience!

Is It Me Or… Is Kim Burrell Wearing Lingerie in Her Music Video Out of Order?

Posted in Celebrities, Is It Me Or..., You Know You Wrong for This! with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on October 26, 2011 by holychick

Don’t know how I missed this one, but I saw Kim Burrell‘s Sweeter music video the other day and I felt some kind of way about her opening the video in white see through lingerie in a bed. WHAT!! Home girl has candles burning and the whole nine lol! Come to think about it the song has a sexy Sade vibe to it. I don’t know what Kim was thinking because that was not a good look especially in a gospel video. I know she lost weight and all, but cover up!

Even though I’m laughing I ‘m still a little… no a lot disturbed. Why the lingerie and the bed and the candles? It looks like a morning after scene lol! Don’t believe me check out the video.

Mali Music Debuts The Job Experience on BET’ 106 and Park

So big things are going on over at the Mali Music camp! Today he premiered the music video for his critically acclaimed single The Job Experience, now available for purchase on Itunes. The single will be on his sophomore album Mali is, due to be released January 2012. Here is a video of the video since the stupid BET video isn’t working.

In case you’re wondering what all the hype is about, let me bring you up to speed. Mali Music is a singer, songwriter and producer. Basically he’s a triple threat. While Mali has a very distinctive style, her reminds me of Tonex without the furs and the Village People costumes lol. What puts Mali in a class by himself is his ability to tell a story with a poetic flow that has not been done in gospel music, aka he’s not wack.  His lyrical composition musical production will have you scratching your head wondering how did he do that?  Mali Music’s music is slap your mama or someone else’s mama good! (jk I would never slap my mom and you shouldn’t either!)

Mali Music is well known in the gospel community for hits like Yahweh and Avayable off his first album 2econd  Coming. When Mali performed The Job Experience at this year’ BET Awards: Music Matters showcase, the music world was abuzz wondering who is this kid? Check out the performance here.

Since his appearance on BET everyone wants a piece of the kid now Akon has signed him to his KonLive Management company.

Everything was going well, and then this!!! Signed with Akon!!! WHAT!  To top it off click here to read what Mali said about being bigger than gospel! Tell me this guy is joking. I don’t know maybe I’m over reacting, you tell me.

Erica Campbell of Mary Mary Discusses Her Husband’s Battle with Cancer

Posted in Celebrities, Music Videos, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on October 26, 2011 by holychick

Erica Campbell of Mary Mary recently discussed her husband’s battle with cancer in her blog on Essence. Campbell, candidly described how she felt her world fall apart the day her husband called her to say the doctors found a mass on his kidneys.

Her story was a true testament of faith and God’s power of healing.

I just want to take the time to encourage all those who are going through. Whether its cancer, unemployment, broken relationships or loss of any kind, survival is the only option. Don’t give up because God is always fighting for you. God wants to take you to your promise land so you will not, I repeat you WILL NOT die in the wilderness! Keep the faith, you will survive.

Want To Keep Your Family Together? Read Your Bible!!!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on October 18, 2011 by holychick

A few days ago my friend Robert sent out a mass text about something God laid on his heart while he was in the shower (Rob takes showers?! This is news to me lol, just kidding)!

The message was simple, but profound and I decided to share it on my blog because I believe its a message for everyone. So here it is:

Many are claiming to write books on ways to keep the family together when the manual has already been written.

1. Husbands love your wives  Colossians 3:19

2. Wives submit to your husbands Colossians 3:18

3. Children obey your parents Colossians 3:20

If we abide by these three scriptures the family will be just fine.

Thank you Robert for sharing and thank you God for imparting wisdom to your people. So when you are at your wits end with loved ones, pick up your bible and find God’s solution to your problems. He will never lead you astray and instead of spending your money on a useless self help book, you can use that money to take your family out to dinner!

Kierra Sheard’s Free Dropped Today To Rave Reviews!!!!

Posted in Album Reviews, Celebrities, New Releases with tags , , , , , , , on October 18, 2011 by holychick

Today Kierra Sheard dropped her much anticipated album Free! I heard all the tracks and its banging! Its definitely worth having in your collection. I am very hard to please, but I have to say I like all the songs. Track 6 Desire is my favorite so far. I hope she makes that her next single.

I admit that while I have always liked Kierra (she seems like she has an awesome personality), I haven’t always been a huge fan of her music. In my opinion she has always had one or two songs per album that I really liked, but the others seemed like throw aways or album fillers. I am proud to say that Free has no throw away songs or album fillers. Every song embodies that of an individual who has grown lyrically, musically, in experience and most of all in God.

While others are running around using gimmicks to sell albums, Kierra uses the anointing of God on her life and its the anointing that makes the difference!

Well done Ms. Kierra Sheard!
